The New York Botanical Garden hosted its annual Conservatory Ball on June 2 to celebrate a one-of-a-kind exhibition, Around the Table: Stories of the Foods We Love.
The exhibition honored the diversity and beauty of plants cultivated for cuisine all over the world and the prominent role that food plays in many of life’s meaningful events. Proceeds from The Conservatory Ball went to the Garden’s outstanding botanical research, children’s education, and horticulture programs.
We are extremely honored to have been able to participate in this year’s decorations, and couldn’t wait to share our favorite moments with all of you. So, shall we?
Around The Table
There’s nothing quite like making a bold statement with a luscious centerpiece. Roses, peonies, carnations, lisianthus, and tea roses in rich tones of magenta, pink, and red combine for a lush arrangement that calls to mind wild summertime mountainsides.
One sure-fire way to draw the eye in is with jaw-dropping features that elevate the tablescape. We wanted to bring a fresh twist to the guest’s tables with real tree centerpieces and sleek topiary designs. For a fairytale-like vibe, we decided to complement the moody blooms with hanging votives and candles.
A Forest Canopy
Envision a summer day, and you’re likely to picture bright green lawns and treetops covered in emerald green leaves. Foliage is a summer staple – and a unique summer décor element.
So unlike the usual table arrangement or centerpiece ideas, this trend of hanging fresh floral and foliage installations, garlands, and chandeliers is the stuff our gala dreams are made of. Take a look at the finished result and we think you’ll be in love too…
Mission “create a secret garden setting with suspended flowers and greenery overhead”, done.
Sheer Exuberance
Nothing compares with summer for pure vibrancy. Adding unexpected elements to a flower arrangement to bring in a fresh aspect of color or texture, is often the door to transforming the overall effect from charming to unique.
That is why our stylists took advantage of the farmers’ markets brimming with fresh produce to create a dazzling flower-fruit duet. What kinds of fruit did we incorporate in our picnic-inspired arrangement? As you can see, plenty! Berries, limes, vining fruit such as grapes, or even larger ones like grapefruits, and halved papayas, all served as accents and focal points. Adding some oranges here and there really gave us that pop of smooth orange amid green foliage. We topped it all off with fiery bengal roses to really tie this bright masterpiece together.
