Buying Flowers on the First Date: Yes or No?

Flowers for first date

“Giving flowers on the first date was something our grandparents did, dating has changed since then!”. That’s what your friends told you when you asked them whether to buy flowers or not. While many might think that giving flowers on your first date with someone is outdated, we say that it certainly is not, but at the same time, it isn’t a steadfast plan of action either. It all comes down to a case-by-case instance. What that means: If you are setting up a blind date, or have not talked to the person extensively before, then handing them flowers can make it seem like you are coming on a bit too strong.

However, that is not always the case. Say you have known this person for some time now, they have been a friend or someone you know from work and talk to on a regular basis, and now your at one time friendly relationship is transitioning into a romantic one. On this occasion, it’s totally acceptable to give flowers on the first date. They can show the person that you care, and that you plan to take this next step seriously.

If it’s your potential Mr/Mrs Right or you just really admire them and want them closer in your life why not show your appreciation? But don’t get ahead of yourself. Remember, the flowers you choose to give can send a whole different message, so pick carefully. No pressure, we’re here to save the day!

Roses on the first date

Roses for the Romantic Girl

Roses are the traditional choice when you want to show your romantic intentions, and are considered the top choice for dates and special occasions. A single rose means it was love at first sight. Although they are regarded as the most romantic ones, for the first date we advise you to buy orange or lavender ones, to showcase that you are not in a hurry and want to enjoy the process.

Orchids for the Modern Woman

Orchids are exotic blooms that convey the meaning of love, beauty, and friendship. A refined choice of flower for a lover who is equally as refined. They are a longer lasting flower, so the object of your affections will enjoy them all they want.

Orchids for the first date

Calla Lilies for the Elegant Lady

If your date is a minimalist, they will definitely fall in love with the sophisticated lily. They are a symbol of celebration and what’s to be more celebrated than your first date? if you go this route, sending an orchid plant to their home before your date is probably best, so you don’t have to carry the gorgeous but large presentation around!

Daisies for the Independent Chick

A bouquet of daisies is the perfect token for a first date to set a fun and playful mood, since they have an innocent and youthful quality to them. Rest assured that daisies are the best flowers for your first date. While giving the daisies to your date, jokingly say: “You look as fresh as a daisy”. They’ll either love it or you’ll never hear from them again.

Tulips for the Timid Señorita

A lovely alternative to a bouquet of roses is a bouquet of tulips. These springtime flowers are romantic and come in various colors. Since red tulips symbolize deep love, and with black tulips you’re saying: “I love you so much I will sacrifice everything for you”, we suggest you tone it down a notch and choose more colorful, vibrant tulips for your first date.

In either case, you should not avoid flowers all together during the beginning of a relationship.  In fact, sending some flowers after a great first date is a fantastic way to show appreciation, and to thank them for a night out. Just don’t try to overdo it.

We hope you are sorted now. Just relax and have a good night’s beauty sleep to have a fresh start to your special day. Best of luck!
